Staff raises, core curriculum plans approved

Montezuma teachers will receive pay raises of 3.16 percent and other school employees will get 3.00 percent increases for the coming school year.
That was settlement reached according to superintendent Dave Versteeg, who was reporting to the school board at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 16.
Versteeg said the 3.16 figure was the average raise of the first 75 settlements in the state.
In other business, the board reviewed then approved the Iowa Core Curruclum Implementation Plan for the district. Versteeg expressed thanked these people for their work in developing the plan: Gayle Creswell, Ryan Van Veen, Roxanne Goudy, Darin Jones, Allison Pargeon, John Gallagher, Marcy James and Brian Moretz.
The board presented and approved calling the county commissioner of elections to have a Sept. 14 election for the issuance of general obligation bonds for the school's proposed facilities upgrade. Related information about the bond issue can be found by clicking HERE.
The board approved the appointments of Dale DeJong to teach secondary science and social studies and Megan Niedert to teach physical education and health.
Versteeg talked to the board about progress on the bus barn project.
The board heard from principals Moretz and Jones about events in their portions of the building.
Invoices from Septagon Construction through June 15 were presented and approved.
The next meeting was set for July 21 at a special time: 2:30 p.m. The main item on the agenda will be to tour the new bus barn construction site.
