Boosters applaud Lions' work at Wayside Park
Aug. 4, 2010
The work the Montezuma Lions Club has done refurbishing the Wayside Park on U.S. 63 south of Montezuma drew some praise during the Montezuma Community Boosters' meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 4, in Hometown Restaurant.
A Montezuma High School group formerly took care of the park, but new regulations forbid students from operating power mowers that are needed in the upkeep of the park.
The Lions have mowed, but have also done repair work.
A special guest was Eric Stabenow, one of the owners of "The Ladybug," a video rental and children's clothing store on the square. Stabenow talked about "Montezuma Today," a six-days-a-week newsletter he is publishing and distributing in Montezuma business firms.
Members learned that Saturday, Sept. 18 has been set for the Fall Harvest event.
Treasurer Deb Ver Meer said membership dues letters will be going out in August.
The Boosters coordinate a holiday event the first Saturday in December. Rev. Charles Klink of the Montezuma Ministerial Association said the group is considering sponsoring a musical program involving students in grades 4-6, possibly at Memorial Hall. Last year's successful Nativity Walk will be repeated, he said.
Rev. Klink said Carpenter's Tools International, an evangelistic group, will appear in Montezuma on Nov. 3.
Several upcoming event were noted at Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center. They include a grandparent's ice cream social on Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. and a barbecue fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for purposes of raising money toward purchase of a new large television.
A resident's Christmas party is planned Dec. 18 at Montezuma Nursing & Rehab. It also was noted that administrator Cory Luft is moving, and business manager Cory (Fahlenkamp) Zell also is moving.
