Ice cream social set July 3
First Presbyterian Church is sponsoring an ice cream social on Thursday, July 3 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Family Center. The menu will include beef rites, beans, chips, pie, ice cream, and drinks, all for a suggested donation.
Gospel quartet to perform July 5
Headin' Home, a gospel quartet from the Des Moines area, will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 5 during Montezuma's "Let Freedom Ring" celebration. Their appearance is being sponsored by Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Jackson Vacation Bible School is July 21-25
'Comic City' is the theme for Vacation Bible School at Jackson Church of Christ. The event will be held July 21-25 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each day. Ages are three years through sixth grade and no registration is needed.
Methodist Church gets new pastor
The Rev. Charles Klink is the new pastor at United Methodist Church, effective July 1. He replaces Joann Hary, who is retiring from full-time ministry. Rev. Klink will be the guest speaker at the Community Ecumenical Church service on the west lawn of the courthouse on Sunday, July 6.
Family Center is signing up members
Memberships for usage of the Presbyterian Family Center for fiscal 2008 are being sold to the general public. The Center offers a full size gym, a racquetball court, a weight room, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a commons area with a foosball table and television. Cost is $10 per year for 4th though 12th graders, $25 for single adults age 18 and over, and $40 for families. For more information, call the church at 623-3275. The fiscal year runs Nov. 1, 2007 through Oct. 31, 2008.
Urban missions trip planned
Youth from the Montezuma community are planning at urban mission trip to Seattle, Washington, next July 25 through Aug. 2. Youth can serve the disabled, impoverished, the elderly and the homeless. Organizers say on any given night, more than 8,000 people sleep on Seattle’s streets, including 1,000 children. New program provides trips to Grinnell
Montezuma residents needing a ride to Grinnell and back will now have a chance to make that trip twice a month at no cost, thanks to a new program called Community Care Transportation. Volunteers will provide the round-trip van ride, in a vehicle provided by Community Hope Church and gas money donated by the Montezuma Lions Club. Celebrate Recovery may be able to help
If you’re having problems in life, Community Hope Church in Montezuma has a program that may help you.
It’s called “Celebrate Recovery.” It’s a 12-step recovery program, and it meets at 6 p.m. on Sunday evenings at the church. Included among problems that are addressed are past hurts, hang-ups, addictions, fears, depression, grief, anger, abuse and co-dependency. "Celebrate Recovery" is a Biblical-based recovery program by Rick Warren. He's the author of "The Purpose-Driven Life" and senior pastor of Saddleback Church in southern California.

Food Pantry, Clothing Center
The Montezuma Food Pantry and Clothing Center is now open at 411 East Main Street, downtown Montezuma, in the former senior center and congregate meals site. It’s part of Montezuma Community Services, which are operated by Montezuma area churches. Rules for using the Food Pantry and Clothing Center have been posted on our web site, on the "Montezuma Magazine" page.
