Your sense of right and wrong probably came from your family.

That's according to information we received recently at a course taught by Ryan Saul at Professional Insurance Planners and Consultants (PIPAC) in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Family is where we learned our basic rules for building relationships and for getting along with other people, Saul said.

So, here are 12 great business principles, based on values we learned as kids, according to the information provided by Ryan Saul:

Family value - Cheaters never win.
Business principle - Don't deceive or mislead to get ahead.

Family value - Do the best you can.
Business principle - Always do what is in the client's best interest.

Family value - Forgive and forget.
Business principle - Don't let anger or frustraton influence your future actions.

Family value - Be nice to your brother or sister.
Business principle - Clients, co-workers and competitors deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Family value - Be thankful for what you have.
Business principle - Clients come first, prospects come second.

Family value - Always tell the truth.
Business principle - Always tell the truth. Always.

Family value - Say 'please' and 'thank you.'
Business principle - Conduct yourself in a professional manner.

Family value - Clean up after yourself.
Business principle - If you make a mistake, go back and fix it.

Family value - What goes around comes around.
Business principle - Your professional success and reputation result from the way you conduct business.

Business principle - If you provide a valuable service, you will be rewarded.
