Hazel Sig-Hester and the Ten Commandments monument.
Commandments written in stone in Montezuma
June 14, 2010
Hazel Sig-Hester was justifiably pleased with the newest addition to Montezuma's growing collection of monuments.
The Ten Commandments and Beatitudes monuments she was the major sponsor of were put in place on Monday at First Presbyterian Church and at her home south of town at Sig Field.
First Presbyterian Church is located at 303 East Washington, just a block north of Montezuma's courthouse square.
The Ten Commandments monument faces south and is between the church and the Presbyterian Family Center. It's on the north side of Washington, in front of the church parking lot.
The monument has The Beatitudes on the north or reverse side.
The second, identical monument is at the top of Hazel's driveway and will be clearly visible to those attending the second of Sig Manufacturing's annual fly-in events June 26-27.
This project was announced in March. For more detail about the monuments and how the project came about, click HERE.
"I hope," Hazel said, "that our young people will take the time to stop and really read what's on these monuments."

Hazel checks out The Beatitudes.
