JV girls lose to Keota, L-S
Jan. 19, 2012
Montezuma's junior varsity girls basketball teams dropped games to Keota and Lynnville-Sully recently.
Keota 24, Montezuma 10
Keota led 8-6 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half of a contest played on Saturday, Jan. 14, at home. "Our mental focus was not there on the press break early, and throughout," said coach Stew Timm.
"This was a frustrating game for the girls and myself. We just couldn't get into an offensive flow which is apparent by the score. It was a game that I hope the girls learn from and we will bounce back for a strong finish."
Clara Johnson scored 6 points for the Bravettes. Paige Snook and Mackenzie James each had 2.
Lynnville-Sully 46, Montezuma 11
Lynnville-Sully led 24-6 at halftime and didn't look back in a game played Monday, Jan. 16, in Sully. "This was a very good team we played and with no chance to practice or prepare a little for them, it was a tough night for the Bravettes," Timm said.
"Defense was the difference at both ends," the coach said. Montezuma strugled with backdoor cuts and the Hawkettes' defense prevented the Bravettes from getting good looks on offense.
"I felt like we played better in the second half, but we still struggled to score," Timm said.
Alex Brenner scored 6 points. Katelyn Gregory and Paige Snook had 2 each and Abbi Nelson scored 1 point.
UP NEXT - The Bravettes host North Mahaska on Monday, Jan. 23.
