JV girls win, lose in tournament
Jan. 10, 2012

Montezuma's junior varsity girls basketball team split a pair of games in the Montezuma frosh-soph tournament on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Montezuma 36, Belle Plaine 35
The Bravettes trailed by four points at halftime, but came out on top. "The girls stepped up and found a way to win," said jayvee coach Stew Timm. "They showed their potential."

Scoring: Katelyn Gregory 2, Abbi Nelson 10, Clara Johnson 7, Dakota Norris 3, Alex Brenner 5, Page Snook 6, Courtney Petersen 3.

BGM 44, Montezuma 23
BGM's pressure allowed the Bears to get some in-close looks at the basket.

"I thought when we were able to handle their pressure we got some good looks offensively. Unfortnuately, we didn't get enough," Timm said, adding that the team didn't shoot well when it did get the looks.

"Overall, it wasn't too bad of a day and we got in some quality basketball," Timm said.

Scoring: Gregory 6, Nelson 3, Johnson 1, Norris 3, Snook 2, Petersen 8.

NEXT UP -  The Bravettes are at North English on Thursday, Jan. 12, and will also play on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Montezuma, hosting Keota at 10 a.m.
