Jan. 25, 2012

Leah Farrington, an Albia native with Division III playing experience, is Montezuma High School’s new head volleyball coach.

Farrington was a 2007 graduate of Albia High School where she was a four year- letter winner in volleyball. She continued her playing career for one season at Central College in Pella. She graduated from Central in 2011 with a degree in Social Science with endorsements in Spanish and Secondary Education. At Central Leah sang in both the A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singer groups as well spent time studying abroad in the Netherlands.

In 2010 Farrington served as a varsity assistant coach while also serving as the high school Social Studies teacher.

Farrington takes over a program that set a school record with 18 wins and finished with a 6-4 record in the South Iowa Cedar League.

“I have enjoyed building relationships with the players and expanding my knowledge of the game and am looking forward to continuing the success the program experiences a year ago,” said Farrington.

David Brondyke has also been hired to serve as the program's assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach.

Brondyke was a 2002 graduate of Clinton High School. He graduated Central College in 2006 and continued his education with a Masters of Arts in teaching from Rockford College. Brondyke is currently in his first year of teaching science at Montezuma.
