Walk/run event will benefit flu victim
Aug. 7, 2010
What can you do when someone you care about faces $1.6 million in medical bills?
You can do something to help and show your support. It will mean a lot.
"Love Knows No Distance," is the name of a 5K benefit walk and run event to be held Saturday, Aug. 28, starting at the Foster Center at Diamond Lake.
All proceeds will go to the Dallas and Sharri (Maschmann) Carothers family.
If you register by Aug. 20, you'll get a free t-shirt. All registered participants we be entered for prizes to be given away after the event.
Dallas Carothers went through a three-month battle against the H1N1 flu virus, starting last November. He was in a coma at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Dallas prevailed - but the bills are staggering.
His friends and family back here are stepping up to help and this event is a way to show their support.
On that day, you can sign in or register starting at 7 a.m. The walk/run begins at 7:30.
You can send in for registration forms, or contribute, to: Carothers Family Fund, P.O. Box 266, Montezuma, Iowa 50171.
You can get forms and additional information from Tami Wilhelm at 641-891-6210, or from Shanel Fahlenkamp at 515-372-0061.
