Trying to get the other guy to smile - without touching him -
was the objective of a game at FCA on May 1.

Who is this generation's 'David?'

May 1, 2008

"How many of you have been in a sticky situation?" huddle leader John Bushong asked members of the Montezuma Fellowship of Christian Athletes at their May 1 meeting in the Presbyterian Family Center.

"Our country is in a sticky situation - actually, it's in a mess," Bushong said.

"Drugs and alcohol are problems. The lack of civility - our country has gotten raunchy," he said. "The emphasis on sex and immorality," Bushong said.

There are similar situations described in the Bible," Bushong said. "The story of David and Goliath is one of them."

"The Israelites were afraid of the Philistine giant, Goliath," he said, noting that the problems mentioned above are modern-day Goliaths for Christians.

"So David, a child, actually, finally came out and fought the giant and as we know, he dropped him."

"Well, who can help God to rescue our culture today?" Bushong asked. "My generation let things go, and to a large extent, your generation is paying for it," Bushong said. "We started getting rid of God from our culture starting in 1962."

"We need a new generation to come in and turn this around," Bushong said. "And you guys are that generation."

Earlier in the evening, the students played a game where they tried to make another student smile or laugh. They could use words or expression, but could not touch the other person.

The FCA has one more huddle meeting left during this school year.
