'New' Remedy Drug has distinctive 'old' look
April 15, 2010
Remedy Drug is back "home."
Montezuma's home-owned pharmacy re-opened in its original location - 323 East Main Street, on the square - after operating from temporary quarters in the old Montezuma Republican office since Dec. 29.
The move was made necessary when part of the original ceiling collapsed through the newer "false" ceiling during the overnight hours of Dec. 20-21.
Owner Todd Thompson decided to bring back the store's "turn of the century" look.
The ceiling is back to its original height, and it's a beautiful golden-tin with designs affair, arched at the sides, at the suggestion of Todd's brother-in-law.
Subdued lighting in the store and spotlighting helps to bring out the color and texture of the marvelous old wood cabinetry along the building's walls. Todd's mother-in-law helped by cleaning and polishing all of the wood. The new lighting techniques do the rest.
Family members completed moving the store's pharmacy back to the original building on Wednesday evening, April 14, and Remedy re-opened in its original location on Thursday morning.
The prescription waiting area features a table with chairs on the side. Thompson said community businesses and individuals can display literature about their firms or organizations on the table at no charge.
"I really believe in community and we need to do what we can to help each other," he said.

The wooden cabinetry looks better than
ever at Remedy Drug.

This was the mess at Remedy back
in December.
