Elementary students observing Literacy Week
March 1, 2010

The Montezuma Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is sponsoring a number of activities which are available to all students in Montezuma Elementary School.

On Friday, Feb. 26, the students and their dads enjoyed "Doughnuts for Dad" in the morning. They were able to bring their dad, grandfather, uncle or another male guardian to school for breakfast.

On March 1-5, the students are observing Literacy Week with these activities:

March 1 & 2 - PAC's pick a book and read - Students will each pick one book to keep and read.

March 2 - Dr. Seuss' birthday - Students may wear stripes to shcool in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

March 3 - Book parade at 8:45 a.m. - Students who are interested will decorate a mini-float to represent a favorite children's book.

March 4 - Visiting author - Lori (Stevens) Ferris, author of "Discover Iowa with Pippy Pig" and "Iowa's ABC's with Pippy the Pig" will visit the school to discuss the importance of reading.

March 5 - Mystery reader - Students will be given one clue each day of the week to uncover the identity of the mystery reader. The mystery reader will read a few book to the students at an assembly.

More details will be coming out about these future events:

April - There will be a spelling bee in April.

April 19-23 - Nike Reuse: A Shoe Program.

April 23 - Old Creamery Theater presentations.

May 5 - Teacher Appreciation Lunch.

May 7 - Muffins with Mom.
