A short course for restaurant workers and other food handlers is being offered on June 16 from 9 to 5 p.m. at the Drake Community Library, 930 Park Street in Grinnell.

The ServeSafe Food Safety Employee Certification Short Course is being hosted by ISU Extension, Poweshiek County Extension and Poweshiek Iowa Development.

Instructor will be Jan Temple, a nutrition and health program specialist with Extension. Joe Beals with the Iowa Dept. of Inspection and Appeals, Food and Consumer Safety Bureau, will be on hand to answer questions.

The class is designed for school food service managers and staff as well as restaurants, assisted living facilities and anyone else preparing and serving food. The training will carry national certification which is good for five years through the National Restaurant Association.

Registration for certification, exam and book is $125. Recertification exam only is $75.

Lunch will be on you own with several restaurants nearby.

Registrants will need to have a photo identification, such as a drivers license, and a second identification form must have a signature, such as a credit card.
