Scarecrows needed for early Harvest Market!

Homecoming in Montezuma is early this year - it's in mid-September - so that means Monte Harvest Market and the Scarecrow Contest will be early, too.

Harvest Market

The second Monte Harvest Market will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside Memorial Hall. It will involve artisans, crafters, antiquers - anyone who is offering products that are made by hand. Representatives from various community groups also will be on hand.

Also that day, local authors J.O. and Debbie Parker also will be hosting the 2010 Montezuma All-Iowa Writer's Conference, a day-long event to be held at the high school.

Scarecrow Contest

Entries are now being accepted for the Homecoming Scarecrow Contest, to be held in conjunction with homecoming and the Monte Harvest Festival.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to create a scarecrow to display on Montezuma's downtown streetlight poles.

The contest is open to any school, youth organization/facility, neighborhood group, family or individual, business, office group - or in short, everyone!

Scarecrows need to be in place by Sept. 15, which is when judging takes place. They are to remain up until Oct. 16 and then removed by their owners.

Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded by the Montezuma Community Boosters, which are sponsoring the Monte Harvest Market event as well.
