Second school Walk-a-Thon set for Oct. 15
Aug. 26, 2010
It was successful beyond all expectations the first time, so Montezuma Elementary will have a second Walk-a-thon event on Friday, Oct. 15.
The event, which encourages fun and fitness, is the elementary school's main fundraiser for the year. It's a low-cost, volunteer-run event. Organizers say almost 100 percent of donations raised will go to enhance the school environment and learning opportunities.
The Parent Advisory Committe (PAC) used the money raised last year to sponsor these activities and events:
Elementary book parade
Literacy Week
Rocket launching project
Accelerated reading field trip
Visiting author
Science Center program
Morning with Mom
Doughnuts with Dad
Library book funding
Nike Reuse a Shoe program
Accelerated reader quizzes
Safe playground funding
Spelling Bowl
PAC's Pick-A-Book and Read
Old Creamery Theatre presentation
Reader's Theatre in the classroom
Teacher appreciation lunch
Organizers say this year's donations will continue to support a variety of academic and student activities, including field trips, class projects and academic excellence programs.
Sponsors who contribute $100 or more will have their name printed on a t-shirt worn by participants the day of the event. Gifts are tax-deductible and can be made payable to Montezuma Elementary Walk-a-thon and sent to the school at P.O. Box 580, Montezuma, Iowa 50171. If you want your name on the t-shirts, your gift needs to be in by Sept. 30.
