Scott Rabenold makes his mark at Tennessee
June 18, 2010

Montezuma native Scott Rabenold is doing quite well for himself in the fundraising profession.

Rabenold has been named interim vice president for development and alumni affairs for the University of Tennessee system. He takes his interim position in August.

Currently, he's the director of the Campaign for Tennessee and associate vice chancellor for development at UT, which is located in Knoxville.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reports that Rabenold's appointment is for one year. At that point, officials will conduct a search for a permanent successor.

Scott will replace a gentleman named Henry Nemcik. The two of them have led the aforementioned Campaign for Tennessee, an effort that's reported to be on track to meet its $1 billion goal ahead of schedule. Rabenold was named director of the campaign in 2007 and a year later took on an additonal role as associate director for the Knoxville campus.

Scott is the son of Al and Denise Rabenold. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Iowa and an MBA at Drake University. Scott and his wife, Sarah, are the parents of two sons, Spencer, who is six, and Sam, who is three.

Scott was an all-state basketball player for the Braves and made the Hawkeyes as a walk-on.

"I am confident Scott will continue the culture and focus that Henry (Nemcik) brought to fundraising," said Jan Simek, interim president of UT.

"I appreciate the opportunity to lead an organization that is filled with outstanding professionals in the offices of development and alumni affairs across each campus as well as continuing to work with those individuals who so generously support UT with their time, talent and resources," Rabenold said in a prepared statement.

Rabenold has worked in development for the last 12 years. We was at Wake Forest University and the University of Memphis before going to Tennessee in 2002.

Scott first served as assistant athletic director and director of capital support in the UT Knoxville Athletics Department for five years. After fundraising for projects such as the historic Neyland Stadium renovation, Thompson-Boling Arena, Regal Soccer Stadium, Sherri Parker Lee Softball Stadium and LaPorte Stadium, he was recruited to oversee the Campaign for Tennessee, which will officially end in December of 2011.
