God needs to see Jesus in each of us
Mar. 20, 2008
Discussion leader Justin Wetering “went deep” with members of the Montezuma ecumenical youth group, but his message was simple: Accept Jesus as your lord and savior.
The students met with Wetering in the Presbyterian Family Center on Thursday evening.
“God cannot stand to look at sin,” Wetering said. “When He looked down, he couldn’t look at Jesus, His son, hanging on the cross. Why?” asked Wetering.
“Because Jesus had taken on all the sins of mankind,” he said.
“Earlier, a man had approached Jesus, asking him what had to be done in order to get to heaven.”
“Jesus told him, ‘if you want to enter life, follow the commandments.’ Jesus added, ‘with man, this is impossible. With God, all things are possible.”
“So, how do we get righteousness from God?”
“Faith,” Wetering said. “Jesus is the only way. We have to give up trying to be righteous and accept God’s gift.”
Wetering explained that God will then see Jesus in you. “He (Jesus) has taken your place,” he said. “He took the punishment we all deserve.”
Earlier in the evening, the students played a game in which they wrote answers to questions about themselves, then another person had to guess which person furnished which answers.
